Under the First Schedule to the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the offence is cognizable, non-bailable, and triable by any Magistrate. The offence is compoundable without the permission of the court by the owner of the stolen property under Section 320(1) CrPC.

Example of Section 414 IPC

Section 414 IPC in the BNS
Section 414 IPC is now covered under Section 317(5) BNS.
Section 414 IPC corresponds to Section 317(5) BNS. Section 317(5) BNS reproduces the text and punishment of Section 414 IPC without substantive change, providing imprisonment of either description for up to three years, or fine, or both. The provision forms the fifth sub-section of consolidated Section 317(5) BNS. Because Section 317(1) BNS adds cheating to the definition of stolen property, assisting in concealing or disposing of property obtained by cheating now falls within Section 317(5) BNS.
